Recycled Silk

I haven’t been keeping up with my knitting lately, which is unfortunate when I think about how close Christmas is… But I do have lots of ideas swimming around in my brain. Now I just need to buckle down and get to work!

I found this yarn on my honeymoon, in one of those natural foods stores:

Honeymoon Yarn - Silk

It was unique, and I was in need of a yarn fix, so my dear sweet husband purchased it for me. 🙂 He also bought me some makeshift needles (chopsticks). The ball band says “Recycle Silk Hand Made in Nepal, Approx-200 grm.” and has a Rising International logo on it. That’s it. I have no idea what the yardage is, but I have a feeling it will be just enough for what I have in mind. Since it is a Christmas present, I don’t want to post all the details yet. But I will, I promise!

Here’s a sample of what it looks like in simple stockinette, on size 8 needles:

Big Swatch

(it’s not really as uneven as it looks in the picture) It’s a little fuzzy, and the thickness changes as often as the color changes. It’s also very rough, so I would not want to knit with it on smaller needles. But because it changes so much, it keeps me interested. I don’t think I could get away with any sort of stitch pattern because it would get lost – it’s already busy enough!

OK, enough procrastinating, time to get off my computer and get back to work! 🙂
